Each time I ramble about my day, I think of George Carlin’s “brain droppings” and how perfect that is as a book title

Such an intense day. I don’t want this to turn into my diary, but I feel the need to summarize some happenings. I started my morning by learning I earned the only perfect score on my social welfare exam - my professor about interrupted me mid-sentence to show the results. We then continued our conversation about my career/major interests, during which he gave me another new idea before...

I’m just now realizing that spring break is in 16 days. 16 DAYS. Within that span of time, I have two papers due (one of them worth 40% of a grade), assignments out the ass, and I don’t know how many exams… I don’t even want to know the exact number. I have two this Tuesday and that’s all I’m going to think about I thought I would be able to see sunlight...

Just once, I would like to walk to a class without some stranger assaulting me with his/her sense of morality. I fully support free speech, especially on a university campus, but I feel it is affecting student morale. Obviously the GAP has diminished my patience significantly, despite only being present for two days. However, other than that, this semester has brought more preachers than any...

Sometimes I doubt my decision to major in psychology; other times I clearly belong. I’ve had my textbook out for half an hour, but I’ve only read three pages because I’m distracted by watching people’s behavior as they walk by the NYT stand. I’ve counted five professors that have passed by and picked up a newspaper. I know three of them by recognition, one of them...

Highlight of my day: hearing a statistics professor destroy one of the speaker’s arguments, before departing with a short speech, “If you’ll excuse me, I must go teach a class. My job as an instructor, after all, is to teach them to think critically instead of indoctrinating them with deceptive information. Thank you for your time.” Bam.

Dear tumblr,
I experienced something today that I have never experienced before. I had a rational conversation with a pro-lifer… Well, at least I did, until she compared legalizing abortion to legalizing rape because “both happen regardless of laws.” She lost me after then, and I had to leave I am still pro-choice, of course, but it was refreshing to speak with someone reasonable. I...

Why I do not stay up / sleep in late
I feel something close to hungover every time. My head hurts, my eyes are sore, I’m sensitive to light, and useless before coffee… Well, today I feel especially shitty, because my back has caught up with last night - the leaning over, bending over, crouching, sitting in unnatural positions, etc. Might as well have done yoga for 5 hours without stretching. My back feels like I did,...

Fuck it’s late. I have an exam tomorrow! I mean, it’s not until the afternoon, but I have other obligations for the class… And my roommate is still gone. Sometimes she comes home at like 9am and goes straight to class - like she puts off returning until the very last second. I could text her, but I gave up on that after last time, when I jokingly asked if she was alive and then...

I’ve washed dishes throughout most of my life, and yet I’m still not accustomed to doing them on a regular basis. I hate doing dishes; I put it off more than anything else. I still resent that moment when I stare down a mountain of cups and bowls and accept that I can procrastinate no longer… Some chores you just never get used to. (This is not a metaphor)

Yonder Mountain String Band w/ Grandpa’s Cough Medicine tonight at Freebird. I can’t go, because 1.) I’m poor, and 2.) I have an important exam tomorrow, and 3.) waaaahhhh I recommend going if you’re in the Jacksonville area. Both bands are a lot of fun, and if you’re unfamiliar it would be a wild experience (in a good way).

Maryland House passes marriage equality bill →
gaywrites: The Maryland House voted Friday to pass a marriage equality bill in the state for the first time ever.  The state Senate passed a similar bill about a year ago, though that bill was ultimately shelved, but it’s expected they will pass it again. Gov. Martin O’Malley has already agreed to sign the bill into law. Tons more details at the article above. What a week.

Met with a group of classmates to study for an exam today. I was the youngest person present, with the rest born in my mom’s generation, but I had more fun talking with them than I usually have talking with classmates… And I was surprised to learn about one who I had judged / dismissed early on. It was like a breakfast club moment: we were so different, but shared similar struggles and...
